Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in 2020.
