The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
